Easter Sunday is a special day for all residents and this is celebrated with a special Easter Sunday lunch that delights their taste buds.

Figolli and Easter sweets, catered even for those on a particular diet, specially made by the residents themselves within the Home, were distributed to all. Crafts decorated for this special occasion were not excluded.

Karaoke feast to stimulate all of our senses.

Karaoke is a regular event in the Home and the week of Easter was no exception. Central Home residents were treated to the Karaoke Party much loved by them. Food was flowing. Socialization was taken to the utmost: Many were those taking the opportunity to joyfully sing along to their favourite tunes or to dance together with other residents.
As fond thoughts of the past are rekindled, familiar people and places help residents recall and share their personal histories exciting cognitive abilities. Karaoke is held regularly because a happy atmosphere is created effectively improving wellbeing by reducing depression. Both the residents and their relatives participate creating stronger bonding between them.

Daily events

Various events are held on a daily basis and this gives rise to social contact and support.

Opportunities for residents are created for ways to structure and occupy their time, physically and mentally and for developing and using their skills. Activities such as minding of plants, crafts, cooking and painting/drawing all give a sense of purpose and

responsibility to our residents. Physical exercise, games and bingo continue to sharpen gross, fine and basic motor and cognitive skills. This is especially important for seniors especially those with dementia when it comes to working on memory. One of our many intentions is
to overcome challenges caused by diminished ranges in motion and mobility in order to recover and keep up strength and agility. Due to this residents may sustain meaningful and necessary daily chores. Maintaining independence promotes a sense of achievement that for many seniors generates a sense of self-worth and well-being.

We want our seniors to enjoy fresh air frequently knowing that this is essential.

Just sitting outside for example can reduce blood pressure, lower heart rate, improve memory and fight depression. We thus also see the importance of taking residents for walks and taking them on outings where nature plays a major role. Studies have shown that besides other conditions, stress levels, vision and the immune system benefit greatly.

The event was followed by Lunch at a restaurant also in Rabat. Many residents recollected scenes from their past, discussed changes throughout the years and lived once more memories from before. They then visited the gardens where tea or coffee and cake were enjoyed together with the pleasant fresh breeze Rabat offers. To take this experience further many of them devoured pastizzi and an ice cream, priceless moments of experience.

Residents visited the fishing village of Marsaxlokk.

Traditions are always looked upon with admiration. It was a beautiful sunny day, so a tour of the area was most welcomed. Lunch was then enjoyed in a cozy restaurant with a view of the calming blue sea. Our residents relaxed, with a little sun coming their way, helping to rejuvenate the mind and body. We know that vitamin D naturally coming from the sun is essential for many conditions such as bone health, the immune system, protection against dementia and brain aging and excess fat. The residents ended up singing happily on the coach back to the Home with a radiant face and warm glow.

The sound of carousal music coming from the Day room and visitors including staff dressed up in costumes generated the unique experiences of Carnival in the Home during February.

This magical time brings back memories from when our elderly were young. The air was filled with creativity. Residents had decorated and designed masks and costumes that they then wore for the Carnival parade, as they danced to cheerful music. The excited residents got involved in various games and activities like wooden animal racing, fish pond fishing etc. where prizes could be won. The fun did not stop here. The evening moved on to the karaoke feast that lit the air with wonder.

Bazaar Week

Our residents finished the Carnival week with a Bazaar held twice yearly, displaying items proudly produced and presented by them. Their efforts were rewarded and their self-esteem boosted as clients praised items our seniors had worked on throughout the months. Social status in our elderly was visible because a sense of identity seemed to be re-established due to their personal achievements.
